Birgit and Frances Carey recently visited Safari West and on the day of their arrival, June 14, 2008, a baby giraffe was born. They enjoyed a fun filled weekend with their friends at Safari West and fell in love with our new baby giraffe! The family has been coming to Safari West for 10 years. We treasure their visits and always look forward to their kind hearts, big smiles, and ideas for adventuresome family fun!

Although they are not able to attend our September fund raiser this year, they wanted to contribute to the Safari West Wildlife Foundation's Discover Africa program as early donors.

In thanks for their very generous donation to the upcoming Twiga, Safari Under the Stars fundraiser event, Frances was given the honor of picking out a name for our addition to the Twiga Family!

Frances explains how Jiggs the Giraffe got his name...

"When I sat on our deck at Safari West and looked at the 2-day old unnamed baby giraffe that was born over the Fathers Day weekend, my father told me the story of when my great-grandmother was feeding her 2-day old son, Jerome, and she looked out over her pasture and saw her cow "Jerry" in the field grazing. She didn't want her son to have the same nickname as her cow, so she started calling her son Jiggs. At that moment...and that's how Jiggs the Giraffe got his name."
