A New Habitat for our Fennec Foxes!
Posted in: Goings on
We’re always working to expand our habitats and improve the welfare of the animals living at Safari West, and we recently finished another project: a brand new habitat for our fennec foxes!
Sergio Jr, Sergio, Javier, and Rolando after finishing the new habitat!
Fennec foxes are only about 2 – 4 pounds fully grown, and will dig complex networks of tunnels within the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert in northern Africa. It was important to build a habitat where they have lots to explore, but also lots of safe spaces to rest and socialize when they want to be out of the public eye. As always, our landscaping team did an amazing job putting the new habitat together, making sure that there were large, complex structures to explore, and building a winding tunnel network with four separate exits!
We are thankful for the exceptional work of our landscaping team, and excited to watch the fennec foxes explore their new home! Our younger fennec fox pair was just introduced to this habitat last week, and are still acclimating to their surroundings, but we wanted to share one sneak peak of the foxes exploring their new home.
